My last photography of 2013.
During these days you feel like you have to share the most important or significant events of the past year, and hold yourself to high standards (whether achievable or not) for the new one, expecting to dramatically change just because the date on the calendar did.
I like to think back at 2013 with the last photograph I took, on December 31. A picture that can be taken as a symbol of those 12 months, shot quite by chance, in an instant when everything was just perfect: the position of the two horses, the sun that shone through the clouds, the wind gently blowing through the mane. It was one of those rare and absolutely perfect moments, as if the universe was singing your song and you are right there, at the heart of it all.
It’s a photo that wasn’t supposed to be taken; I went on walking, but then changed my mind and walked back. I shot. And it immediately became one of my favourite pictures, one of those that will always have a special place in my archives and prints.
Not only it is my last photograph of 2013, but it sums the whole year. The best things happened quite like this shot, without expectations, looking for them but changing mind and roads, catching the perfect moment of every occasion. They are rare, but they happen.
And this is my wish for the new year, that it may be filled with such precious instants.
