I’ve recently spent a few days in Breil sur Roya, in the French department of Alpes-Maritimes. It’s a small village located right in the middle of the river Roya valley, and it’s a famous destination for both hiking and canyoning lovers (especially the last ones). The surrounding mountains hide in fact many enchanting canyons where small rivers run through, and that are impossible to admire but with some courage and efforts to live such an “extreme” experience. Lightly swaying along the rhythm of the waves. The water, crystal clear, with its infinite shades of light blue, green, turquoise, melting with the colour of the sky far at the horizon. If you listen carefully, here’s the chirping of cicadas, leitmotiv of Mediterranean summer afternoons.
This is my postcard from summer, a snapshot warming the first cool autumn days, and that brings me back to the marvelous isles of Porquerolles and Port Cros, on the French Riviera. (more…)
Intense scent of jasmine.
If I close my eyes and think back to my recent trip to Rome, this is the first memory that emerges. More than the colours, the light, voices, flavours. A thousands and more words have been spent on the Eternal City to try to describe its beauties and complexities, but every encounter adds something. For me, this time, was that particular smell, that accompanied and embraced me throughout my whole stay. (more…)
